SOME COMMENTS ON THE PLACE

ALTHOUGH WE MIGHT ARGUE ABOUT THIS I BELIEVE THAT THE FIRST KAHN’S OPENED IN THE DINKYTOWN AREA OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA BACK IN THE MID-SEVENTIES. I KNOW OF THREE LOCATIONS- RICHFIELD, ROSEVILLE, PARK RAPIDS. THIS PLACE IS NEAR THE TOP OF OUR LIST AND NOT JUST BECAUSE IT IS ALL YOU CAN EAT!

YOU TRAVEL DOWN A LONG LINE OF FOOD ADDING MEATS AND VEGIES AND HERBS AND SAUCES AND SPICES TO A BOWL. THE YOU WALK OVER TO THE COUNTER AND HAND YOUR BOWL TO THE COOKS (ASIAN IN RICHFIELD, MEXICAN IN ROSEVILLE, SWEDISH IN PARK RAPIDS) AND THEY THROW IT ON A HOT SURFACE TO COOK IT. SWALLOW, RINSE, REPEAT.

SOME COMMENTS ON THE HELP

THE COOKS ALWAYS SEEM TO BE HAVING A GOOD TIME. BEING A TEACHER AND HEARING THE STORIES OF WHAT THE TEENAGE HELP DOES TO FOOD SERVED AT THE PLACES THEY WORK IT IS ALWAYS REASSURING TO SEE THE FOOD COOKED BEFORE MY VERY EYES. THE TABLE STAFF IS EQUAL TO THE TASK AND ALL GOES WELL EVERY TIME WE VISIT.

THE FOOD, THE FOOD

IN THE DAYS OF YOR WE RAN A BIKE TOURING COMPANY. AT THE END OF A WEEK OF EATING OUR OWN CAMP FOOD AND PEDALING A GOOD FIVE POUNDS OFF THE TORSO (I DO MISS THOSE DAYS) WE WOULD HIT A BUFFET TO CELEBRATE. KAHN NEVER MISSED THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEND US OUT FULL AND HAPPY. WE REALLY LIKED THE ABILITY TO VARY THE SPICES IN THE FOOD FROM SWEDE-FRIENDLY TO TREVOR-DOUG HOT.

ADAM IS OUR BIGGEST FAN OF THIS PLACE. WHEN ASKED FOR A QUOTE DURING OUR LAST VISIT HE REPLIED “MUPLF GRUBBBL WOLP SBUMPLP”. HE WAS THEN SEEN TO SWALLOW, RINSE AND RETURN TO THE COUNTER.

OTHER THINGS WE THINK YOU SHOULD KNOW

THIS ONE’S A NO-BRAINER. WE’VE EATEN AT ALL THREE SITES AND ENJOYED EACH. THEY ARE A BIT DIFFERENT: RICHFIELD HAS AN URBAN FEEL, ROSEVILLE A NEWER SUBURBAN FLAIR AND PARK RAPIDS IS ALONG THE RIVER- WITH THE FLOOR NOTICEABLY LEANING OUT TO SEA.
